E4C – Edutainment4Care: A European Initiative Bringing Together Healthcare, Education and Technology to Support Hospitalised Children

The E4C – Edutainment4Care project is an innovative European initiative that brings together universities, healthcare providers, educators, and technology experts from Italy, Cyprus, Croatia, North Macedonia, and Portugal. Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, E4C aims to enhance the educational, emotional, and social experiences of children facing prolonged hospitalisation through the integration of educational robotics, digital technologies, and edutainment approaches.

The project explores the intersection of healthcare, education, and technology, developing innovative methodologies and tools that support children’s participation, wellbeing, learning, and inclusion in both hospital and community settings. Particular emphasis is placed on creating engaging educational experiences tailored to the needs of paediatric patients while fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals, educators, researchers, and technology specialists.

At the heart of E4C is the development of implementation and measurement protocols focusing on cognitive, language, and interpersonal skills, alongside the creation of an intelligent digital platform, virtual learning environments, and educational robotic toolkits. These resources will support professionals working with hospitalised children and contribute to the development of new interdisciplinary educational pathways within higher education institutions.

A major milestone of the project was the Learning, Teaching and Training Activity (LTTA), hosted by Università Politecnica delle Marche (UNIVPM) in Ancona, Italy, from 19–21 May 2026. During this three-day event, project partners explored innovative technologies, participated in hands-on activities with robotic and digital tools, and collaboratively designed scenarios for future implementation in hospital and community environments.

The E4C consortium is committed to promoting inclusive, child-centred, and evidence-based approaches that address the diverse educational, psychosocial, and participation needs of children. Through its activities, the project seeks to strengthen collaboration between education and healthcare sectors while supporting the wider adoption of innovative digital pedagogies across Europe.

Project results, resources, and updates will be made available through the E4C website and social media (LinkedIn and Instagram) throughout the project’s duration.
